How to perform a hard reset (master reset) on your Garmin Nuvi
nuvi 30, 40, 50, 52, 54, 2200, 2300, 2400, 2405, and 2505 series
Note: A master reset will erase all favorites1 and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites to your computer, you can find instructions to do so here.
To perform a master reset on a nuvi 30, 40, 50, 52, 54, 2200, 2300, 2400, 2405, and 2505 series devices:
Start with the device OFF and unplugged from power
To verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device
Press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen
Power on the device while continuing to hold the display
Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
Touch Yes
If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right
The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

nuvi 55, 56, 57, 58, and 60 series

To perform a master reset on a nuvi 55, 56, 57, 58, and 60 series device:
Start with the device off an unplugged from power
To verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device
Touch and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen
Quickly press the power button
Continue holding the touchscreen as described in step 2
After approximately 30 seconds, the Garmin logo will disappear
Release your touch from the screen when the logo disappears
The logo will soon reappear
Once the copyright information appears on-screen with the Garmin logo, touch and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen
A message will appear, asking, "Erase all user data?"
Touch Yes to confirm
Another option to perform a master reset for these devices:
Touch View Map
Touch the Speed icon
Touch and hold the speedometer for approximately 5 seconds
Release your touch when the Diagnostics Page displays
Touch Clear all user data
Touch Yes when prompted to "Erase all user data?"
The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

Start with the device OFF and unplugged from power
Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the device ON
Release the power button when the device powers ON
You will see a new message: "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
Remove your finger from the touch screen when this message displays
Touch Yes

The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

Power the device ON while continuing to hold the touchscreen

Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
Touch Yes

Remove battery from nuvi
Place battery back into nuvi
When the progress bar appears, touch-and-hold the bottom right corner of the touch screen
Release the screen when "Do you really want to erase all user data?" appears
Touch "Yes"

Connect the device into a power outlet and turn the device OFF
The master reset will not work when connected to a computer
After about ten seconds, power the device ON
As soon as the loading bar appears, immediately touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen
The message, "Do you really want to erase all user data?" will appear after about thirty seconds
Remove your finger from the touchscreen when the message appears
Touch Yes to confirm

Start with the device turned off and unplugged from power
On the dezl 570, 760, and 770: the verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device
Power on the device
When the first copyright screen appears press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen
Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
Touch Yes

Place and hold your finger in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen
Power the device On
Release the power button after the device powers On
Continue to hold your finger on the touchscreen until the device reboots
